Continuing Community

Ongoing Support for Retreat Attendees

At Music Therapy Retreats, we believe that healing is an ongoing journey that doesn't end when a retreat is over. Our "Continuing Community" initiative is designed to offer a space where past retreat attendees — specifically, our veterans — can continue to connect, heal, and grow together.

Creating Connection and Fostering Healing Beyond the Retreat

We’re excited to introduce our weekly 90-minute Zoom sessions, led by a dedicated Music Therapist. These sessions are open to anyone who has attended a Music Therapy Retreat in the past, with a special focus on veterans.

Our Format

Our weekly sessions are carefully structured to create a safe and welcoming environment, fostering both personal and creative growth:

  • 60 Minutes of Mindfulness, Guitar Therapy, and Songwriting: Each session begins with a 60-minute segment focused on mindfulness practices, guitar therapy, and songwriting. Guests will have the opportunity to join breakout rooms with provided topics that stimulate creativity and provide education. This is a great way to prepare for events like the VA Creative Arts Festival and explore new creative outlets.

  • 30 Minutes of Open Community Time: After the guided portion of the session, guests will have the option to stay on the call for an additional 30 minutes to talk, share, and connect with others in the community. Whether they want to turn your camera on and engage or simply hang out with your camera off and listen, this time is theirs.

  • Monthly Open Mic and Special Guests: On the last session of each month, we host an open mic where guests can share their latest work or listen to others’ creations. And for months with five weeks of gatherings, we’ll have a special guest songwriter join us to provide unique insights and inspiration.

How to Join Our Continuing Community

If you’ve attended a Music Therapy Retreat before, you’ll receive an email invitation to join these sessions. Please check your inbox (and your spam folder) for an email from info@musictherapyretreats.org. If you don’t see an invite and want to join, reach out to us at info@musictherapyretreats.org. We’re here to help you get connected!

To ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone, participation will require some terms and conditions:

  • Approval for Recording: An approval form must be completed for the recording of sessions.
  • Emergency Contacts: Participants are required to provide emergency contacts so that support can be provided to anyone who might need it during or after a session.
